Some of the larger hotels rent out bikes and mountain bikes for tourists to enjoy. If you enjoy cycling and want to discover the island by bike then stick to the main roads. In the more populated areas, don’t hesitate to stop if you see cars or buses arriving at speed and always remain extremely vigilant. For guided tours in various locations contact us:
YEMAYA ADVENTURES
North and South West
Three fairly easy circuits are available:
Firstly, mainly on the road and accessible for everyone, this circuit is mainly downhill in the heart of the Chamarel valley. (Many panoramic views, visit of the coloured earths, picnic in the South near Baie du Cap).
Secondly at La Nicoliere not far from Pamplemousses where lakes, forests and hills shape the landscape. There are also panoramic views over the Northern Islands. (3 circuits available in the area of 6, 12 and 25km depending on your level).
The third is a more challenging circuit between Tamarin waterfalls and the village where there is a 30km descent around the gorges and the seven cascades, the Trois Mamelles mountain and Rempart mountain before crossing Tamarin river.
Remember to bring sun cream, suitable shoes and a change of clothes. There is a possibility of combining some of these circuits with kayaking and walks.
DOMAINE DE L’ETOILE
East
In a large stunning landscape many guided tours are available along tracks in the countryside. Four circuits are available from 45minutes to 3 hours depending on your level. Departure times are flexible. The environment is beautiful.
DOMAINE DE BOIS CHERIE
South
The land around this area is known for its tea cultivation which tourists visit as part of the ecotourism. In operation here are three circuits for mountain biking. The first is fairly flat and is 12km long aimed for families, the second, a little more challenging is 17km long which crosses a river and the third is downhill from Bois Cherie in the highlands to Saint Aubin on the South coast. The three circuits are not guided but a technical advisor is on hand before you leave to give some practical information.
