Ile aux Aigrettes

In order to reach Ile aux Aigrettes, you are taken by boat from Pointe Jerome (South East of the island). This island is the natural reserve and is protected and run by the Mauritius Wildlife foundation. When you arrive, you are taken for a guided walk lasting 90 minutes where you will discover the famous coastal forest endemic to Mauritius where the Dodo lived for many years. Giant tortoises, the Telfair gecko, the famous Pink Pigeon are all at home here and there are magnificent views over the Mahebourg lagoon and the South Eastern mountain ranges. The Blue Bay Marine Park is located very close by. You can hop on to a glass bottom boat and visit the marine park with all its protected corals and multicoloured sea life. You may even see a turtle swim by. Entry onto Ile Aux Aigrette is reserved through the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation who run rehabilitation programs for the protection of endemic species.
