Let your dreams come true !
Isla Mauritia
Add to my cart

This is an exceptional trip aboard an old 32m schooner built in 1852 and renovated for relaxing day trips! This boat is considered one of the most beautiful in Mauritius and was built in the traditional style of the famous Schooners of the Balearic Islands which transported goods between North Africa and Europe. Until 1959 the boat was kept through the generations in the same family and eventually sunk in mysterious circumstances. Two years later the boat was afloat and swopped its role of transporter of merchandise to pleasure boat. With the help of the original drawings and documents of its construction, the boat was renovated in its original style. Today the interior has been modified to accommodate a sitting area, toilets and bathroom as well as up to date navigational instruments necessary for cruises. For many years this boat sailed between Europe and the Caribbean Islands and was used in many films. Between 1988 and 1989, the Isla Mauritia made its last long journey from Scandinavia to Mauritius and proved it could still defend itself in the ocean with the same panache and grace as it had done a century before.

Leaving behind its glorious past and its millions of miles of sailing around the world, today the Isla Mauritia takes tourists for gentle trips along the North coast. The boat moors at Tombeau Bay for a Creole lunch and a snorkel. There are two trips a week and you need to book in advance.
